Hugo S is a Brazilian born oboist whose love for the instrument has ignited his passion to perform, to teach, and to bring young artists into the fold. He earned his Bachelor of Music in 2009 from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) in Natal, Brazil, then went on to earn a Master of Music in Oboe Performance from State University of New York (SUNY) at Purchase in 2011. He is slated to receive his Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in Oboe Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music (Rochester, NY) in December 2021.

His performances have taken him around the globe, from chamber music appearances in the US, Brazil, and Canada, orchestral performances in the US, Czech Republic, Germany, and Brazil, and music festivals in the US, Brazil, and Luxembourg. Currently the Acting Principal Oboe for the Columbus Symphony Orchestra in Ohio, Sr. S has previously held the position of Principal Oboe with the American Ballet Theatre and with Orquestra Sinfonica do Rio Grande do Norte (Brazil).

Not content with performing and teaching, Sr. S is a founding member of the Associaçiao Brasileira de Palhetas Duplas (Brazilian Double Reed Society) which targets young performers from northeast Brazil, providing unprecedented opportunities for promising classical musicians. The Society promotes academic research, master classes, recitals by international guest artists, and a young artist competition. “I am so pleased with the programs the Society provides for these young musicians. The work of the Society will exist well beyond my lifetime, and will continue to inspire excellence for generations. I am honored to have been part of its foundation.”
